Westsail Origins

The Westsail 42 (and the more popular Westsail 32) were designed by Bill Crealock. Most of his designs, including the Westsail, are "double enders" characterized by the shape of the "canoe stern". However, this sort of design was not his invention. It is understood that he, and other designers like Bill Atkins (especially his Ingrid design), took their base lines from the tough and very seaworthy Norwegian workboats of the late 1800s designed by Colin Archer (b:1832-d:1921). Here is a webste about Colin Archer and his boats (mostly in Norwegian, but some English).
Thanks to S/V Maitreya for the idea for this post.
