Aft Head Wall-In / Shore Power Wiring

Cutting and fitting of partitioning walls for the aft head has begun. These walls separate the head area (with toilet and small sink) from the rest of the cabin.

The good news is that the space will not be as cramped as we had thought. And there is room to hang a good sized door between the head and the rest of the cabin. There is no room for a pocket door. This will likely be a traditionally hinged door.

With space closing in here, I need to give thought to the placement of some more mechanical items, including...

  • shore power inlet
  • shore power cord storage
  • AC electrical isolation transformer
  • engine waterlift muffler and exhaust hose
  • seacock for aft head overboard discharge
  • toilet and holding tank plumbing
  • steering cable and conduit


Shore Power Connection

This is the main power cord that will connect the boat to an AC power source on the dock. Already having parts in hand, I proceeded to mount the inlet and wiring. We have an old 30 amp cable and receptacle from our small boat, which was replaced last year with a SmartPlug receptacle and cable. This old cable is still temporary, but it enables me to remove the 15 amp shop extension cord, hanging from the aft hatch opening, that has been in the weather powering the boat for the last few years (it is getting kind of crusty and worn out).

The wiring from the end of the shore power cable terminals to the AC panel is 6 AWG, which is large enough to handle 50 amps, should we decide to upgrade from a 30 to 50 amp shore power cable.

Now, there are absolutely no more temporary extension cords running throughout the boat (yay!).
